What is a Psalm?
A psalm is a poetic song of praise, prayer, reflection or lament.
The Book of Psalms are among the most beautiful writings in the Bible. Psalms vary in content and purpose. They may be songs of praise calling people together to praise God, poetic prayers of thanksgiving to praise the actions of God or poems of lamenting by an individual or a nation, asking God for deliverance from suffering.
Reading the Psalms, I often find comfort, hope and inspiration.

This was my first introduction to christian music and the first christian CD I ever puchased. I was emotionally moved by the soothing power of Card's voice matched with the lyrics of the songs he performed. Everyone that I have shared this CD with has added it to their music collection regardless of their denomination or religious beliefs. The worlds musical artists are fortunate that Card's focus is christian music . . . or he would dominate be number one on all the charts.

Ray Boltz finally caught my musically inclined ear when I first heard "Shepherd Boy" some time ago. I cannot say how beautiful a masterpiece this is. I liked it so much that I bought it, and I have no regrets. Anybody who enjoys listening to any type of Christian music will most assuredly love this album: "Moments of the Heart".

No Greater Sacrifice/Ray Boltz

Probably one of my favorite Boltz collections of songs. "What if I Give All" is the most awesome thought provoking song leading Christians to really think about servant ministries. When compared to the pitiful little that most Christians give, it brings tears to my eyes that Jesus gave all for me. Like it, "Until All Have Been Served" gets right to the meat and potatoes of servant ministry. Not until every single soul on earth has heard the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ will the task be complete that we are here on earth to do. We must take them the word until all have been served. Boltz music brings tears to your eyes if you really listen to the words and think about the awesome task facing Christians today. As an amateur church choir singer, when I look for songs to solo in church, I always turn to Boltz music. His words and music always bring a much needed message to whomever hears.

What Music Inspires You?
Who are your favorite musical inspirational artists ?
I enjoy a variety of musicians whose words and music touch cords of hope, joy and other emotions deep within my soul.
For Biblically based pieces, Michael Card is an artist who interprets the scriptures through song and shares how these ancient words have brought new meaning into his life. I am continually blessed when listening to his music.
I also love the standard hymns, written long ago. Many artists of the day have revived these songs of praise, giving them new life in a, new world.
Most contemporary artists today have their own web sites, offering information such as; bio's on the musician, new releases, concert appearances and other interesting facts.

Music in the Bible
The melodies of ancient Israelite music are lost because they were passed down orally through the generations. The scriptures often convey scenes of victory, worship, mourning or joy with the sounds of singing and playing musical instruments.
The Bible ascribes the invention of music to Jubal and mentions music as part of the religious practices of Israel.
The temple orchestra was said to have included a large choir, a great number of stringed instruments and cymbals for percussion.
Musicians of the Bible
Jubal was the first musician mentioned in the Bible. Many others followed in his footsteps. They were the wandering minstrels who sang war ballads, court musicians who entertained at feasts and members of the Levite guilds created by David to play in temple rituals. These guilds both sang and played ritually pure instruments.
David himself was a well known musician. He was first summoned to King Saul who was in search of someone who was "skillful in playing the lyre." David also wrote many of the Psalms, which are songs of praise.
Among the women musicians mentioned in the scriptures are Miriam, sister of Moses and Deborah of the Old Testament. Then there were groups of women noted as praising David's battlefield triumphs.
